The Holy Qur’an is the most important Islamic source, reading of which is a form of worshipping Allah. The teachings of the Qur’an ensure happiness in both worlds, encouraging people to be honest and live in harmony, solidarity and peace.
Some hadiths say that the best among people are those who learn and teach the Holy Qur’an.
From time immemorial, brave and courageous Uzbek people valued the Holy Quran and managed to preserve it even in the tyrannical period of the persecution of religion.
Endless gratitude to the Creator, with independence, we achieved freedom of religion, restored our sacred faith, and the Holy Quran was returned to the nation. During the last decade, the Uzbek translations and commentaries were published several times.
At the meeting with the representatives of public associations on 1 September, 2017, our President proposed to conduct a multi-stage contest among the reciters of the Qur’an with regard to correct and beautiful reading.
Presently, the initial regional stages of the three-level contest of reciters of the Qur’an are being held, while the district rounds are expected to take place on 13-15 February in the central mosques and magnificent buildings of the city of Tashkent.
Indeed, people are paying a visit from differentcorners of the country in order they could listen to the Qur’an, and are united by the desire to be in a society under the lights emanating from the Holy Qur’an.
All participants of the contest, men and women aged 18-40, follow one of the two categories: hifz and reciting. In the category of hifz, the memorization skills of men and women are assessed, while in the second, reading and reciting skills are focused on.
The district stage of the contest attracted over 486 participants, of whom 302 are men and 184 are women.
The juries assess the participants in on the basis of the following criteria: (hifz category) thoroughness and accuracy in memorizing; (reciting category) complete reading in conformity with the rules of tajweed, voice aspects, and beauty of recitation.
